A prize catch for diabetic retinopathy
Article Abstract:
An unbiased approach is used to identify a potential target for treating a proliferative diabetic retinopathy, an advanced stage of a condition that afflicts about 12% of individuals with diabetes. The use of proteomic approach has identified a novel enzyme, carbonic anhydrase, which activates a cascade of proteases ending in the activation of the well-established vasoactive molecule, bradykinin.

Retinal angiogenesis in development and disease
Article Abstract:
The retina is regarded as 'an approachable part of the brain' for investigating neurosensory processes. Cell biologists are now capitalizing on the accessibility of the retina to investigate how important aspects of developmental angiogenesis, including how it related to neuronal and glial development, morphogenesis, oxygen sensing and progenitor cells.

Increased dietary intake of [omega]-3-polyunsaturated fatty acids reduces pathological retinal angiogenesis
Article Abstract:
The role of lipids in degeneration of optical vision across all ages might be directly related to decreased intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
